Hi I was wondering if anyone could tell me (by using examples) how big a 4 carat emerald cut diamond ring is?
Dec 20, 2006 by acehernandez2006 | Posted in Fashion & Accessories
I was just interested in getting myself a 4 carat emerald cut ring but I don't want it to look too big so I was wondering if anyone could tell me, by giving examples (like the size of a thumb nail or something) how big it would be? Thanks!
For an ideal emerald-cut diamond, a 4.0 carat would be 11 by 9 mm.
Click on the link below. The page contains a chart of different carat weights in emerald-cut diamonds and their corresponding size. It'll give you both the dimensions and a drawing of the size.
As for prices. . . well, I've seen one really ugly looking 4-carat emerald-cut diamond priced at just above $6000.00 this month--it was not a good-looking stone. Of course, I've also seen an absolutely lovely 4-carat emerald-cut diamond priced in excess of $250,000.00.
Size of a diamond is only one of many things to take into account when purchasing one. Before you decide to buy a diamond, spend some time getting yourself educated--there is a lot of information on the web.
Good luck.

BIG. Too big to look good on most people.

about 1/3 the size of a postage stamp

It would look good on Paris Hilton, as she was chauffeured up in her Bently, but probably not you. It would likely cost over $100,000. You couldn't even afford the insurance on it unless your daddy is a doctor. Peach Pie has the size right.
philbertpheinstein | Dec 20, 2006
4 carats would be very very big. It's about a one inch square.

About the same size as your avatar picture...pretty darn close. And it would be insanely expensive.

looking for a diamond engagement ring, is emerald diamond cut the real deal?
Nov 06, 2008 by poker22only | Posted in Weddings
found a .7 ct emerald diamond cut ring, looks beautiful, but i wasnt sure if the emerald meant it was fake or something, i want the REAL deal, real diamonds!! so being the male that i am i need your help lol. thanks
An emerald cut is just the shape of a diamond (like it being round, princess, marquis, cushion, etc.) It is quite unique and very lovely. Still make sure you buy from a reputable jeweler or you run the risk of getting a fake diamond. Most main stream stores carry emerald cuts in a variety of shapes and settings.

emerald means the cut/shape of the diamond

Then go buy the real deal! Buy the good diamond and quit looking for cheap stuff. If you want to marry her, she deserves the best, since you care enough to give the very best!

Emerald diamond simply means the cut of the stone. It's considered a more antique look for a diamond. I have an emerald cut for my center stone, and it's fabulous. I get a lot of compliments on it for it having that "antique" look to it.

emerald is the cut. If its a diamond its a diamond. Ask to see the paper work and go check it out.

"Emerald cut" refers to the shape of the diamond - rectangular sides with a flat top ("table"). This kind of cut showcases the diamond's clarity, so you'll want to be sure it's of high quality.
It doesn't mean that the stone is an emerald. It just describes the diamond's shape. Confusing, right? This might help:
Brilliant cut: round
Princess cut: square
Emerald cut: rectangular
Oval cut: oval (obviously)
Marquis cut: pointed at both ends
Pear cut: pointed at one end, like a tear-drop
Cushion/pillow cut: squarish with rounded edges
Radiant cut: squarish
Trillion: triangular (often used as a side stone)
Baguette: rectangular and skinny (side stone)
Heart: heart shaped

Emerald cut is a shape of cut. It is called this because it was originally developed specifically for emeralds. However these days it is used on just about any gemstone. It is a rectangular stepped cut that is very open (less facets)
Just because it is emerald cut does not mean it isn't a diamond, is a heart cut diamond really a heart, is a pear cut a pear?
I have an emerald cut and it is beautiful.
Just some advice, go for VS2 or better clarity or you can see the inclusions because of the openness of the cut.

I have an emerald cut... It's the style of the cut of the diamond.. more of a rectangular look and it looks like glass looking at it.. it's a very unique cut... Looks like it goes one forever...

Emerald cut diamond is simply the type of cut. Emerald cuts can be rectangular or square. The cut is known as the emerald cut because it is so commonly used with emeralds. This is because the shape of the rough emerald crystal lends itself more efficiently to this cut with less loss in the cutting process. In very fine emeralds, losing a few hundredths of a carat can mean a few hundred dollars lost.

Hi There, emerald cut is just the name given to how the diamond has been cut. There are many different ways a diamond can be 'cut' to reflect the light. The main thing to consider, in my opinion, is the clarity of the ring. Does it have any inclusions, ie little black bits of carbon. Lots of carbon in a diamond is not really a good thing. Make sure you buy your diamond from a reputable shop and ask for a valuation certificate. A great web store is www.russ4gold.com, they have some great diamonds, at great prices and can ship all over the world. Good Luck !

I love Emerald cut rings...like everyone said it just means the shape of the diamond. My mothers is an emerald cut...always loved it. Mine it a princess (square) which I like too.
To be sure it is real if you are buying it other than first hand from a jewlery...like it you find it at an estate sale or something - have the diamond tested.

Try an antique dealer...you can get a really unique ring for a decent price and it won't be like any other ring out there.
And for heaven's sake, don't buy your jewelry from Wal-Mart. They can't even sell a pair of blue jeans that lasts longer than six months.

Is a 1.5 carat total weight emerald cut engagement ring enough?
Jan 23, 2009 by John B | Posted in Weddings
Im looking to buy my fiancee a new engagement ring, as she lost her other which was only like a 3 stone .65 carat total weight ring. She wants this 2 ct. ring from zales which I can't afford. However, i have found a 1.5 ct total weight emerald cut ring for half the cost. The center is .44ct, 2 bagettes equal .46ct, and it has the princess cut diamonds on the band the total .60ct. The clarity of the diamonds are VS1 and color of F which is really good I think. Do yall think she would be happy with this?? Is this a nice size ring for a family on a strict budget?? We are getting married in June and I really want her to have another ring by then,
1.5 ct is actually pretty good sized. Anything 2+ ct is considered to be flashy and almost too big.
