How would I turn a jeweled brooch into a hair barrette?

I would like to take an old vintage jeweled brooch/ pin and turn it into a hair barrette. I would just like to know how to remove the metal pin part of the brooch and secure the jeweled piece on to the metal barrette. Also where can I find the clip together barrettes that I need? Beading store? Any advice would sure help- thanks :)

Use wire cutters or pliers to remove the clasp. If you have a Dremmel, smooth the area off. A beading store or an arts and crafts store should have the barrette backing you need.

go to a jeweler. if it is old, it is probably easily breakable!

joanne fabrics, hobby lobby, any craft store

What does the TH stand for in a chester hallmark on a gold mourning brooch?

I have recently acquired a 9ct yellow gold antique mourning brooch with a rose cut diamond set in the front & compartment in the back for either some hair or a photo. The Hallmark is Chester dated either 1909 or 1907 and the makers mark is TH ( although it could possibly be a TM but i dont think so). I have been researching but i cant seem to find out who the makers mark stands for. Can anyone tell me or point me in the direction of a website that can perhaps shed some light?
Upon closer inspection, the makers mark is definitley a TH if this helps in anyway.

I'd take it to an antiques dealer. They'd probably know best.

How to properly wear a brooch?

My ex boyfriend just gave me the most beautiful brooch I have ever seen. I am assuming that the gift was his way of getting back together. Anyway, how does one wear a brooch without looking like someone's granny?

I wear a lot of pins and brooches, stemming back from the days when my kids were small and always grabbing my necklaces, so I switched to pins instead. I mostly wear them with a solid color top or sweater, just pinned to the neckline off to one side. It seems to set off my face and picks up the color of what I'm wearing. I get a lot of compliments. If the brooch is heavy, you might not want to pin it to your top, instead you can try it on your jacket or blazer, or your coat for outdoors. If you like hats, try it on there also. I have also seen people wearing them on their bags.

It has to match the top you are wearing. Usually goes well with plain color.

How can I wear a brooch in a cool way?

Stylist Rachel Zoe said a brooch is an essention. Well, how can I wear it? Thanks!

Hey good question!
Alright, you have to get cool ones first of all. Big, blingy ones rock. Now, if you are going out one night, and your hair is in a gorgeous updo, pin the brooch into your style. I actually wore this fab one last night in that way, and a bunch of people said they loved it. Its elegant, yet modern. Or, you could pin it to a chain, and wear it as a pendent for a necklace. I saw this one girl wear one as a ring once, she just pinned it to a thin gold ring, and it looked bomb. Lets see, oh, and if your dress is too big ( I can find some ka dresses on the cheap, but they might be a size or two too big) I just gather the extra fabric in the back(like from the bust, because you need that to fit) and pinned it with the brooch. Easy, simple, yet totally stunning. Hope I helped!

what is the name of a pair of ahoes from ALDO black/brown that have a decorative brooch on the side?

They are now on sale at some stores and i just need to know the name of the shoe. Again, they come in either black or brown and are made of a silky fabric and have a brooch on one side of the shoes.

I have already looked on aldo.com and they do not show them, but I just saw them in a tore yesterday.

Try Aldo.com - you can enter your search information (color, size, sale/clearance, etc.) and you can also order them online.

Precious Things Now Come in Small Packages NewsBlaze

Precious things now come in small packages going by the gleaming Beat, Ritz, Jazz and other four wheel drives that were on display at the recent auto expo in the Indian capital. Yet, when it comes to jewellery, avant garde Indian designers think big. Size, they say, is now a fashion statement and one that is meant to make heads turn.

"Big, bold, chic and stylish is the new mantra in jewellery style," explains Mumbai-based jewellery designer Bela Rastogi, as she sketches an exclusive design of a rather impressive diamond brooch. Rastogi, who specialises in polki or uncut diamonds explains that the comparatively less expensive polki encourages women to opt for larger pieces - something the exorbitant diamonds do not permit. For instance, a three-inch broad cuff in gold with polki diamonds forming the centre motif would be preferred to the traditional slim bangles. The use of polki brings down the cost by nearly 40 per cent. So a diamond cuff when designed with polki would be priced at around Rs 300,000 rather than Rs 600,000 (US$1=Rs 46.2). Furthermore, the size of the polki would be larger than the diamonds.

Today's young professionals like to flaunt their earnings and therefore think nothing of investing large amounts in bigger pieces of jewellery. The latest celebrity to have upped the style quotient with chunky polki jewellery is actress Shilpa Shetty, known for her films, Yoga CD, stint on 'Big Brother' and, more recently, her lavish marriage with UK-based entrepreneur Raj Kundra. In her bridal finery, Shetty's large polki pieces conjured images of erstwhile maharanis posing for a royal portrait. Set in larger-than-life designs, such expansive jewellery is meant to set the wearer apart.

Interestingly, modern Indian jewellery has adapted to global tastes while retaining its ethnicity. Catering to women who can wear either a sari, a pair of jeans or even an evening gown with elan, such pieces are not always cast in the traditional yellow metal or even in polished silver.
