In which years were the Brooch and Pendant invented?

According to Wikipedia's Timeline of Inventions, the pendant was invented in: 8700 BC, in Iraq.

And first brooches were made at the close of Bronze Age, between 1550 and 1200 BC.

Old egipcians, chinesse and mayan had'em

But its maybe older than that.

That's a tough question to find real answers for. Anyhow, I found the following link on a pendant dating back to about 8700 BC, but I don't know if that's the earliest known pendant or not.

And for brooches, I found a wikipedia article that says the earliest known brooches are from the Bronze Age.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooch

A Brooch (also known as broach or in ancient times fibula) is a decorative jewelry item designed to be attached to garments. It is usually made of metal, often silver or gold but sometimes bronze or some other material. Brooches are frequently decorated with enamel or with gemstones and may be solely for ornament (as in the stomacher), or sometimes serve a practical function as a fastening, perhaps for a cloak.

The earliest known brooches are from the Bronze Age. As fashions in brooches changed rather fast, they are important chronological indicators.

The Fibula (or Fibulae plural) is an ornamental clasp used by Romans, Greeks and also by Celts and migratory tribes in Europe during the period from 1000 BC to 800 AD. They were shaped somewhat like a large safety pin and were used to hold clothing together. They came in many varieties and held prominent significance for the identity of the wearer. They were usually made of bronze and sometimes of precious metals and infrequently had encrusted gem stones. Eagle fibula, often worn in pairs, commemorate the worship of the Sun, common among the pagan tribes. Ancient fibulae are prized items for collectors, since they are well preserved in many cases and are not difficult to obtain; they present in a fascinating array of shapes and decor.

What jewelry maker uses a hallmark stamp GA with an arrow through it?

This piece is a pendant or brooch probably from the 70's

It is CA with an arrow. The company is Carl Art.

How do I determine if a gemstone is genuine .. ?

I have a box of rings and brooches, pendants etc how can I find out whether the stones are real gemstones or just bits of glass? Would a jeweller be a bit narked if I presented him with 3 0r 4 dozen different items and what would he be likely to charge me?
good idea Taff, will go and have a good scratch.
so glass cant mark a gemstone ..here goes nothing then ..I'll try anything once (or twice) ..

Hmmmm... it depends on what the brooches and stuff are. For one thing, the easiest way would be to see if a piece of glass can make a cut on the gems/stones. If it can't cut, it's a gem. Also, if the gem seems too light, there is a good chance it is just glass. These are the two best ways I could think of. Other kinds would be chemicals, but not a smart idea ;). Or yup, just take it to the jeweler. He wouldn't mind I think, I mean well... a deal is a deal! Good luck with those stones!

hi if they are diamonds?? if it scratches a mirror then they are indeed real, i have tried this with a fake diamond and a real diamond and it does work, not sure for other gemstones though.

does anyone know where I can find a pink and pearl cameo for under £30?

like the one just sold on ebay, if you want to look at that. Either pendant or brooch is OK

Either ask the ebay seller if they have any more to sell or google it xx

If you had $200 to spend on jewelry... what would you buy?

Would you buy one-of-a-kind or would you try to get as much as you can for the money?
Would you buy for yourself or buy a gift? If it's a gift... who's it for?
Ring, earrings, bracelet, brooch or pendant?

i dont wear jewelry such as valuable stuff like diamonds, gold, platinum -ect -I always thought it was excessive -if I wear jewery its costume jewlry but usually only earing or necklaces
I like Chandelier Earings with lots of details and necklaces that are unique or one of a kind and I love exoctic costume jewelry from different countries but inexpensive unique stuff only - I guess I would go out and buy alot of homemade jewelry from another country with some stones like tigers eye and some jewelry made of wood or copper and other natural things
