Learm With me: Anklet Stitch

India is known for its rich textiles, arts n crafts since ancient times. It is a potpourri of cultures, traditions, arts n crafts. There are a number of arts n crafts, which differ from region to region. I want to share my knowledge -what little I have, in this area with you all and also invite you to learn with me different Arts n Crafts with me.

Today I want to share about one of the Embroidery Stitches. This is Muvvala Kuttu or Anklet Stitch as known in my State of Andhra Pradesh. This is like a type of braided Fly stitch with the tie down stitches slanted to face each other forming a “V”. This shape reminds us of the shape of tiny Bells or Muvvalu worn in the silver anklets by the women of Andhra.

As you know a Fly stitch is worked by working of a V-shaped loop which is then tied down by a vertical straight stitch. A Braided Fly stitch is worked by lapping of each stitch over one another to form a pattern of “Y”.

The procedure is explained in the step by step stitches given below:

Indian Jewellery Items Available In Different Regions

Jewellery is a tradition of India and it gives a unique look to the marriage. You can resemble an Indian marriage with a fashion show as there you can see different type of fashion jewellery. There are different art works and exclusive designs available in Indian jewellery which gives a complete fashionable and traditional look to your jewellery. There is a trend in India that your jewellery is passed on generation to generation. East is famous for the beaded work in jewellery, west is known for the stoned and mirrored work, south is considered as a region of experts in large designs which are extensive temple based and north is known for the beautiful carved designs. There are also many designs which are taken from the other regions like Middle East but the jewellery designing is unique
Sometimes the bangles they wear is shorter than the nose ring. In different region and cultures, the larger nose ring denotes the wealth of the husband. In some regions nose rings are known as nath and they are made up of stones and pearls. Toe ring is usually considered as a symbol of married girl. The material used in these toe rings should be silver and they can be even studded with a semi-precious stone. Necklaces of the traditional temple Indian jewellery design are widely used by many.
Indian jewellery contains earrings and they are traditionally known as Jhukams, which are bulky and long and have detailed designing. Anklet is available in it of two types. One is movable and the other one is immovable. Flexible anklets are made by joining metal rings. Normally silver metal is used. The immovable anklets are like bangles having gap to fit into leg. Indian jewellery is famed for its design and it is much more durable. These traditional look is popular in the worldwide.
There are different art works in Indian jewellery. Some of them are Kundan, Mughal and filigree. Kundan work is very popular that it is made by oxidizing false stones and metals now-a-days. Filigree work is usually done in silver and involves minute designing and the Meena art work is actually filling the metallic designs with different colors.
